Quiet week
Jun. 1st, 2003 06:58 pmFor me, at least. Figured I owed it to myself. Getting ready to head back across the Pond in a week or so, and get back to work. But first, rambling - I caught up on all my paperwork, so I have to do something to occupy my mind.
Been catching up on these journals, too. You've all got far too much energy. My tired old bones can't cope, even if me leg is finally out of plaster. Caught all sorts of interesting rhetoric about why we're all at the school, and what we should be doing, and how we should be treating each other, among the background chatter and pink hats.
It's all a bit shiny happy people for me. So I've been trying to work out what the point of the place is. I mean, d'you all want to be X-men (and christ, why)? Or d'you just want better control over your powers, so's you can graduate, get a decent job, settle down, and vanish into the rest of the world? Or are you looking to build the society of the future?
I mean, there's some folk here that aren't going to blend into normal society without one of McCoy's little toys, but there's plenty of you for whom normal society is an option. Is that what you're after?
Another thought about tolerance: are we doing this the best way? An exclusive school, apart from the normal population isn't really teaching the world that mutants are part of society now, and here to stay, but then, a normal school isn't equipped to teach the specialist classes required. I don't know - I know, or at least, I hope that this place isn't much more than the first step but I'm just looking ahead, and wondering what the next ones will be. Hell, it's most of you that are going to have to worry about them, not me, so I was just curious: where d'you see yourself in fifteen years? Where d'you see society?
God, I must be bored.
